We strongly believe that music should be accessible for all. Likewise, every individual should enjoy the right to education. We share this conviction with Sababu – Association for Equal Opportunity and the Support of Intercultural Dialogue. For the Sababu Festival in April 2024, we are putting on a multifaceted stage performance that brings together our strengths and skills to uplift the elimination of acoustic barriers.
First international Sababu festival in Vienna.
From April 18-20, 2024, the first international Sababu festival is taking place in the Jazz & Music Club Porgy & Bess with a multifaceted evening program complete with jazz, world music, a cappella, percussion and – above all – lots of rhythm.
In addition, on April 21, 2024, those younger members of the public will have the opportunity to partake in a delightful children’s concert, replete with theater performances and special workshops.
Note: All performances on this day will be interpreted in Austrian Sign Language (ÖGS).
Tickets: In order to make our cultural exhibitions as accessible as possible for the younger members of our public, each participant is asked to simply pay what they can and wish.

“A FOREST GNOME FLIES TO OMAN“
(Children’s theater for children from ages 3-7)
“A Forest Gnome Flies to Oman“ and we are flying along too!
The children’s musical theater performance, based on the picture book of the same name by Dorothee Schwab and Melanie Laibl, guides children and adults around the world with playful music, rhymes, and song.
„A forest gnome sits on a tree and swings his legs, dreaming a wild dream – one much different from all the other young gnomes. Instead of sitting at home, he wants to fly around the world. The only thing is: how does one begin to fly, when nature hasn’t given one wings?” (Schwab/Laibl “A Forest Gnome Flies to Oman”)
A rustling leaf drifts in the autumn breeze. It comes to the aid of the forest gnome and takes him along as a passenger. There they go flying away! Along the way, the gnome is accompanied by the audience. He invites the observers to travel with him through various countries and cultures, where they make music, sing, and dance.
The remarkable thing is that, seeing as the story is sung with both voice and hand and the story told in both German and Austrian Sign Language, we can all – whether hearing impaired, deaf, or hearing – join in with the forest gnome on his adventures. Are you coming with?

There is a limited number of participants we can accommodate. Pre-registration is not required, but you may register if desired by contacting us via email at office@beat-the-silence.at. Workshops will be interpreted into Austrian Sign Language.
