Beat the Silence is back to make your hearts beat faster again!
On September 13, 2024, we invite everyone who is excited to join in. Together, with the help of musical, optical, and sensory compositions of many different forms, we will overcome acoustical barriers and unite those who come for the experience of feeling through performances that leave an impression.
The show will be opened by no one less than the trained sound artist Bernhard Rasinger who, together with Philipp Haffner, has brought together the artforms of the modular synthesizer and modern laser technology. The Vienna-based artists have made a splash in music festival scenes across the world, from the USA to Germany, Latvia, Croatia, and even Tokyo. Now at last they will perform a laser show at the WUK, opening the eyes of us at Beat the Silence and opening the hearts of those in attendance to receive the subsequent performances.
At the heart of the show, you will find the heart of our initiative:
The professional drum duo, composed of Matthias Herrnegger and Martin Wagner make history with the first commissioned composition for Beat the Silence. The IMANI Drum Show, complete with orchestral playbacks, sophisticated light effects, exciting settings and loads of rousing energy, will demonstrate that the shared experience of enthusiasm for rhythm and music generates a silent but incomparable feeling of unity and makes inclusion of all sorts tangible.
The worthy finale of our mini festival will be a feast for the eyes, ears, and hands…and for the entire body. With their wide-reaching repertoire and improve-rich performances, our star guest -the successful Hungarian band Mörk – has not only made their way from Budapest across the world, but has also won the hearts of countless fans here in Vienna with their alternative R’n’B psychedelic soul-and-funk groove. Their most recent album, “Astral Visions”, which was released in April 2024, has been interpreted in the form of sign language poetry and brought to the stage by Lucia Rosenfeld and Franz Steinbrecher, making visible the fact that the dream of Beat the Silence – our vision of inclusive art – is no longer a dream for the future; it is alive, perceptible, and real.
[AE1]Okay - this phrase is not one I’m familiar with, nor could I find a translation of it online. My best guess is that it means something like “not just an an extra body”...like that someone is present to really participate, not just add a warm body to a space? Happy to talk about this one if you want.
